Day Trip to Girona

Yesterday we went on a day trip to Girona, which was absolutely splendid! Girona is a northeastern Catalan region in Spain, and is filled with unique culture and history. Girona is most well-known for the medieval time period where roman and gothic style architecture was built and still remains. When we first arrived we were able to explore the Eiffel Bridge, which crosses over the Onyar River, and is one of the most popular sites in Girona. Girona was also a major filming location for the popular tv show Game of Thrones. We walked up the steps of the famous Girona Cathedral, which was the set for several scenes in the television show.

Afterwards, we received a guided tour of the city, and were taught about the Roman and Jewish history behind the city. Our guide took us through the Jewish Quarter in Girona, which is one of the best preserved in the world. The narrow cobblestone streets within the Jewish quarter have remained for around 500 years. Another beautiful location we were taken to, was the medieval walls of Girona, also called the Passeig de la Muralla. This has the most spectacular views of Girona, and was my personal favorite part of the tour. Lastly, we had some time to go enjoy some tapas and gelato and then we went back to the bus for more adventures!

The second half the day we took a trip to the Salvador Dalí Museum, which was quite the experience. I have never been so fascinated by an art museum before, and his art was to say the least thought provoking. We were able to tour the entire museum and it was my favorite yet I've visited in Spain. Overall it was a pretty wonderful day trip to Girona!
